An unemployed man accused of making series of bomb threats against supermarket giant Tesco has been remanded in custody.

The hoaxes two weeks ago led to the closure of 14 stores, Hertfordshire Police said.

Philip McHugh, 51, appeared at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court in Hertfordshire accused of attempting to extort money from the retailer.
